EGYPTIAN ART AND ARTIFACTS: UNEARTHING THE PAST

image of Gaming board and pieces

In popular culture, ancient Egypt is often depicted as a distant land shrouded in mystery. Mummification, hieroglyphics, and animal-headed gods paint a picture of a culture steeped in superstition and the occult, with beliefs and practices far removed from our own.

In reality, the archaeological record provides us with an intimate portrait of the daily lives of ancient Egyptians. From food and fashion to religion and government, Egyptian society shared many of the same concerns that we do today. These details are revealed in the tombs, paintings, hieroglyphs, and artifacts that have survived for thousands of years buried beneath the sand.

Use the Resource links on the left to explore a diverse collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Each entry includes a description of the artifact, along with an explanation of its role in Egyptian daily life. These artifacts will bring the world of ancient Egypt to life, making the distant past more accessible for young students of history.
