The term hijacking usually refers to the abduction of a civilian aircraft, although it can also be used for the forced takeover of other types of vehicles, such as trains or boats. Hijackings are usually accomplished with the threatened use of firearms or explosives and are sometimes performed by terrorists to gain publicity or negotiate leverage.
